Jimmy Pratt Memorial Outreach Centre

The Jimmy Pratt Memorial Outreach Centre located at George Street United Church has been operational for the past nine years and serves the residents of the downtown core. Every Friday volunteers with the support of corporate sponsors serve an average of 120 patrons a hot nutritious meal.

On September 17, 2010 East Coast Catering proudly donated its services in preparing and serving a delicious and nutritious meal for the "Soup Kitchen" patrons.   The menu, created and prepared by ECC Operations Coordinator and resident chef, Wayne McKenzie, was as follows:

Apple and Raisin Stuffed Pork Loin
w/ Cinnamon Demi Glace

Herb Roasted Baby Potatoes

Vegetable Medley

Fresh Baked Dinner Rolls

Carrot Cake w/ Cream Cheese Icing

Needless to say, a lot of full bellies and smiling faces walked out of the Outreach Centre that Friday afternoon.

Every Friday the Outreach Centre is open from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM and during this period the Centre often serves up to 150 meals. In addition to the meal, visitors can also spend some time in "Friendship Corner" where they can relax and watch some TV or a video and perhaps even spend a little time "surfing the internet".

ECC would like to thank Lorne Haines of Sysco and Gord Chaytor of Terra Nova Foods for their generous contributions and a special thank-you to all of the wonderful ladies and gentlemen that volunteer at the Outreach Centre on a weekly basis who lent us a much appreciated helping hand!

Volunteer’s Creed

Though my battles and my worries
Are sometimes all that I can see,
Still I always must remember;
Life’s not only about me.

Other souls are also hurting,
And I know that it’s God’s plan,
To reach out to help another;
To extend to them my hand.

With this purpose as my focus,
To be a comfort to a friend,
All my troubles and my worries
Seem to fade out in the end.

It is one of God’s true lessons,
How my walk is meant to be;
True happiness I find
When life’s not only about me.
